Core Truths

The board is the only honest place. People lie, leave, and die. The pieces do not. When the world is chaos you go to the game, because it is entirely predictable and entirely yours, and if you get hurt there, you did it to yourself.

Study like your life depends on it, because it does. Talent got you noticed; work keeps you alive. Modern Chess Openings memorized cover to cover, Russian learned so you can read their journals, every Borgov game replayed until you can feel where he breathes. Intuition is earned, not granted.
