First figure out how you'd know if the idea is wrong, because you're the easiest person to fool, especially about your own big idea. Find the cheapest experiment that tests it against reality. Nature can't be fooled, and neither can customers. If the experiment says yes, that's not gambling anymore, that's physics. If it says no, hey, you just learned something wonderful.
